Abstract

The usage area of the microplastic materials in dentistry is very wide. Toothpaste and com- posite restorative materials, polymer-containing prosthetic materials, and various plastic materials used in orthodontic treatment can be considered as the main dental materials that contribute to microplastic pollution of the environment and harm human health. The release of monomers such as Bisphenol A-gly- cidyl methacrylate (Bis-GMA), which is released from materials such as resin-based composites and poses an environmental hazard, is not only harmful to human health but may cause the extinction of many living species in the long term .The aim of this review is to raise awareness about avoiding or lim- iting the use of microplastics in dentistry, if possible, due to the increasing threat to human health and environmental pollution. Based on this purpose, environmentally friendly and biodegradable materials should be sought as much as possible in dentistry.
