Abstract

A generating mechanism for synthetic flow generation is proposed which preserves historical wet and dry spell properties, in addition to the classical statistical parameters of the flow sequence. The mechanism constructs alternatively wet and dry periods and then corresponding surplus and deficit magnitudes within these. All of the necessary formulations are explicitly derived for the implementation of the model which is applied to four annual flow series observed in Europe. © 1985.
