Abstract

Schizophrenia (SCZ) is among the leading causes of disability

worldwide, affecting around 1% of the world population (1). Nevertheless,

biological mechanisms are still inadequately understood; growing evidence has

demonstrated that defects in immune-related genes present SCZ susceptibility (2,

3). IL-2 is a growth factor for T-cells, NK, and B cells (4). Association studies

examining polymorphisms of IL-2 (rs2069762) and IL-2RA (rs2104286) genes in

SCZ are limited; therefore, this study aims to evaluate the genetic polymorphisms

in IL-2 and IL-2RA genes in SCZ patients by comparing them with healthy

controls.
