Özet
The USA is projected to be
the world's largest economy and market in 2026, with a GDP of $32.4 trillion
according to IMF data (2026), a domestic market demand (population) of 342.9
million, and exports of $2.2 trillion and imports of $3.5 trillion according to
TradeMap (2026) data. While access to the US market is a significant privilege,
entry and maintaining a presence in the market is not so easy. Until President
Trump's second term, the USA had one of the most open economies in the world
and one of the lowest average tariff rates. Today, beacuse of the USA’s high
trade deficit and President Trump’s new additional reciprocal tariffs to
decrease it, access to this market has become somewhat more difficult, but it
remains a significant target country for foreign trade and, especially, for
investment in the USA through incentives. Indeed, President Trump has invited
both American investors who have investments abroad and foreign investors to
the USA to help create a great America once again.
Türkiye stands out among
emerging economies with a projected GDP of $1.64 trillion in 2026 according to
IMF (2026) data, a domestic demand market (population) of 86.2 million, and
exports of $273.4 billion and imports of $365.4 billion according to TradeMap
(2026) data. While exports to the USA are quite important for Türkiye
(accounting for 6 percent of Türkiye's total exports), the fact that Türkiye
has only a 0.50 percent market share in the U.S. market is concerning.
In 2025, the USA imported
$17.5 billion worth of goods from Türkiye, making Türkiye the 29th largest
supplier to the U.S. market. Conversely, the U.S. became Türkiye's third
largest market, exporting $16.3 billion worth of goods in 2025. The U.S.
exported $20.4 billion to Türkiye in 2025, making Türkiye the 22nd largest market
country. Meanwhile, Türkiye's imports from the USA reached $18.1 billion,
making the USA as Türkiye's fifth largest supplier. Clearly, the USA is a significant
trading partner for Türkiye.
The report, commissioned
by TABA-AmCham, examines the global import and export between the United States
and Türkiye. The study not only analyzes the total global imports of the U.S.
and Türkiye's market share by state, but analyzes Turkish exported competitive
products as well. Furthermore, the report examines the U.S. import and export
data in relation to Türkiye's position in the U.S. market, and explores the
importance of the U.S. to Türkiye using Turkish import and export data.
