matchday assignments have been criticized heavily over the years by the
stakeholders with arguments regarding economic losses and performance issues.
With the objective to improve upon the current scheduling effort by the
federation, we develop a multi-objective approach to achieve dynamically fair
matchday assignments throughout season that also accounts for the rest time
between consecutive matches. Given the seasonal fixture, we develop a nonlinear
binary integer program that is solved optimally for each round feeding
information on previous rounds. Our results offer promising improvements over
the existing schedule generating better results when a greater degree of weight
is given to seasonal matchday distribution fairness rather than obtaining ideal
rest time.
