An automated computer program is developed for calculating areal average rainfall (AAR) value and its implementation is presented for the arid region representative country, Libya. The procedure is conceptually simple by consideration of almost equilateral triangels connecting adjacent meteorological stations with the assumption of linear rainfall change between stations. The applications of the methodology have been achieved for monthly, seasonal and annual rainfall amounts recorded at 29 meteorological stations scattered over the northern part of Libya. It has been shown that the proposed methodology yields results that are comparable with the commonly used AAR calculation methods.
