Abstract

Extended Reality (XR) technologies, encompassing augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR), play a critical role in digitizing, preserving, and experiencing heritage, encouraging users to interactively explore historical and cultural heritage. Interaction between users and these technologies occupies a significant place on the research for XR technologies. This study seeking to understand the impact of heritage-focused XR technologies on users aims to present user research within XR studies related heritage through a systematical literature review. In this direction, 718 articles and conference papers obtained through Scopus database are analyzed with VOSviewer. Keyword co-occurrence analysis reveals four basic clusters of user-centric research in XR studies in heritage. The clusters examined in more detail with selected literature examples can be generally expressed as follows; "user interaction and user interface in VR technologies", "user/visitor experience for AR, XR technologies", "learning with these technologies" and "human-computer interaction, MR technologies".
